Field Trip
Tapolca Lake Cave
One of Hungary’s most visited caves, the Tapolca Lake Cave, was discovered in the early 20th century and has been open to visitors since 1912. Since 1938, adventure-seeking visitors have also been able to explore the cave by boat; however, only a certain portion of the cave system—which stretches for several kilometers beneath Tapolca—is accessible to the public.
In 2020, the Tapolca Lake Cave won third place in the Quality Award category at the Szallas.hu – Tourist Attraction of the Year gala!
Balaton Uplands National Park
Nature lovers can choose from a wide range of excursion options throughout the year. It’s worth exploring the world of Berek, the picturesque Hegyestű, or the Salföldi Manor, which showcases the traditions of the Káli Basin.
Castles of the Balaton Uplands
Szigligeti Castle
Throughout its eventful history, the castle has been owned by several Hungarian noble families, and it was continuously expanded during that time. Today, it is one of Szigliget’s most beautiful attractions. In addition to numerous interesting exhibits, visitors can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view.
You can find information about current opening hours and admission prices on the Szigliget Municipality website.
Sümeg Castle
Within the perfectly preserved walls of Sümeg Castle, an interactive exhibition, a real jousting tournament, and many other exciting activities transport visitors back to the Middle Ages.
Csobánc Castle
Csobánc Castle clearly takes its name from the hill of the same name in the Balaton Uplands. After the Turkish capture of Buda Castle in 1451, Csobánc became a frontier fortress; the Turks attempted to capture the castle on several occasions, but Csobánc Castle successfully withstood every siege. The castle ruins are open to the public.
Rezi Castle
Rezi Castle was built in the 13th century and changed hands several times amid rebellions and sieges. Several hiking trails lead to the castle ruins, located at an elevation of 418 meters, which offer a beautiful view of Gulács, Badacsony, and Sümeg Castle.
Wine Tour
Káli Kövek Winery
This place doesn't look anything like a classic wine terrace, but that doesn't mean it isn't one—and it's definitely worth stopping by. In the heart of the Káli Basin’s culinary village, lying on hay bales or sitting on pallet furniture, you can engage in world-changing conversations while tasting unique, single-vineyard wines named after the surrounding towns.
You’ll find it here: 8274 Köveskál, Fő utca 11.
Istvándy Winery
The wine bar is located in the cellar of a historic villa, and its charming terrace is one of the most romantic spots in Badacsony. It’s right in the center, so you don’t have to go out of your way to enjoy the panoramic view of Lake Balaton—the live music and soft jazz are just a bonus.
You’ll find it here: 8261 Badacsonytomaj, Római út 155.
Kristinus Winery
It’s not your typical “view of Lake Balaton” experience—this is a high-tech winery with a spacious terrace where, in addition to wine tasting, you can also sign up for a “cellar tour.” Instead of a musty, dimly lit cellar, the wines here are produced in an air-conditioned room separated by glass walls. If you really miss the view of the water, take a walk up the nearby hills—you’ve surely never seen Keszthely Bay from this angle before. The wine terrace is open Wednesday through Sunday.
You’ll find it here: 8713 Kéthely, 99 Hunyadi Street.
Summer Cellar
On the southern slope of St. George’s Hill, heading uphill along the road between the Tarányi Winery and the Lengyel Chapel, we arrive at this small family-run winery. While admiring the views of Badacsony, Szigliget, and the Lengyel Chapel, you can sample the Kéknyelű, Olaszrizling, Rajnai Rizling, and Szürkebarát as interpreted by the Nyári family. The hype surrounding the vineyards hasn’t reached this spot yet.
You’ll find it here: 8265 Hegymagas, Szent György-hegy, 881. hrsz.
Farmers' Markets

Tihany Market Square
The popular farmers' market is held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the Tihany ferry terminal. It’s the perfect choice for lovers of farm-fresh delicacies and enthusiastic treasure hunters.
